Slask-Legia: after-match conference
Hugollek i Mishka
Jan Urban (Legia’s coach): The first half of the match was rather dull. I didn’t expect that Śląsk was going to counterattack in the way it did. The pitch was sprinkled with water – that’s why the game ran so quickly. Śląsk’s footballers knew that we mostly play football in the middle part of the field. This is easy to lose ball there and to create an effective counterattack. We managed to avoid it in the first half. After the break we played more aggressively, so were closer to rivals. We couldn’t play so as if we were trying to draw this match. That’s why it became more open.
We still have problems with scoring goals and we need to work hard on this aspect. However, this is not an easy task. The only way of getting better with it is to simply strike goals. When you score goals, you are more self-confident and the behaviour near the opponents’ goal also changes. After this game there’s a huge insufficiency, because in the second half we did a lot more than Śląsk to win three points. In the course of the season we’ll see if this was a good, important point for our team, or if we lost two points. Nevertheless, Śląsk surely isn’t willing to give other teams points in Wrocław easily.
This is the third week as Chinyama resumed the trainings. He surely wouldn’t be able to stay whole 90 minutes on the pitch. That’s why he appeared in the second half of the game – so he could run with a little bit more tired Śląsk’s footballers. We had lots of losses during the game. It’s hard to say if my players feel as if they had a strong mental burden as a result of Wisła’s great points advantage over us. We will be able to catch up on this loss only if we start striking goals.
Ryszard Tarasiewicz (Slask’s coach): I believe that Śląsk fought off a good match. We exceptionally made lots of technical mistakes. This was a result of some kind of nervousness and due to the name of our rival. You can say that after quick losses of balls, we were able to get them back very quickly, and this is something very positive. If our team hadn’t been so determined and so well motorically prepared, Legia would have won this match for sure. That’s why I’m happy with the final result. Except two or three situations, which were generally Chinyama’s individual actions, Legia wasn’t able to generate good goal situations due to our good game system and tactics. We know our place in the Ekstraklasa and we are aware of our potential. We have to take advantage of our assets. This could be noticed in this match.
